日本で「蛍の光」は別れの歌だけど他の国では??　New Year’s traditions

イギリスやアメリカの英語圏では”蛍の光“(Auld Lang Syne)は12月31日、大晦日のカウントダウンの際に歌われています。その際に、近くにいる人みんなにキスをします 日本の他にも台湾や香港では卒業式・葬儀でこの歌は、歌われているようです。

このビデオには歌詞も出てくるので一緒に歌ってみてください。歌詞の意味は、旧友と再会し、思い出話をしつつ酒を酌み交わすといったものです。
そもそも、”蛍の光”はスコットランドの民謡で、その詩は、1788年にロバート・バーンズによってスコットランドで書かれ、伝統的なフォークソングのメロディーに合わせられました。英語圏ではこの歌はカウントダウンの時の歌として毎年歌われ、スコットランド語の”Auld Lang Syne”は、 “long long ago”や”days gone by”(昔)と英訳されています。

Sex and the Cityの映画を見たことがある人は、この曲が大晦日のシーンで使われていたのを思い出すかもしれませんね 一番下にあるビデオクリップはこの曲の映画で使われていたバージョンです。すっごく美しいですね!聞いてみてください

英語バージョン

Traditionally we sing the song Auld Lang Syne right at midnight at New Years.  We also kiss everyone we can see!

This video has all the words so you can read them. Auld Lang Syne is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song . It is well-known in many English-speaking countries, and it is often sung to celebrate the start of the new year at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day. The song’s Scots title may be translated into English as “long long ago”or “days gone by”.

You might recognise the song as it was used in the Sex and the City movie in the scene about what the characters were doing on New Year’s Eve.  The clip below is that version of the song, and is particularly beautiful.
