この”セックスアンドザシティー”の中でサマンサは彼氏、リチャードが”ある悪さ“をしでかした後にレストランで彼に会います。私の記憶が正しければ、その”ある悪さ”とは、彼女の目の前で浮気が発覚してしまったことです。このビデオクリップはスラング、“bastard”を修得するのに最適です。前にも言いましたが、アメリカではものすごく頻繁にこの単語を耳にするわけではありません。でも、実際に使われてはいます。サマンサは本当にかっこいいですね。私も私の元彼が浮気していた事が発覚した時があったのですが、こんな風に冷静に落ち着いて対応できていたらどんなによかっただろうと思います。私のときは叫びまくって、確か”You complete bastard! ” と何回か怒鳴りちらし、その場を去った覚えがあります…

Samantha:ダーティーマティーニ、ダーティーバスタード!(ダーティーマティーニはカクテルの種類でダーティーバスタードはこのできそこない男が!と韻をふんでいる)

In this Sex and the City, Samantha meets her boyfriend Richard after he has been bad.  If I remember rightly he cheated on her (real bastard-behavior!), but correct me if I am wrong!  This clip is a really good example of the word bastard.  As I said before it isn’t as commonly used in the US, but it is used.  Samantha is all class – what style! I wish I had been that composed when I found out an ex of mine cheated on me – instead, I was a screaming psycho, but I did say “You complete bastard! ” quite a few times and then quickly left!

“bastard”と 同じような意味を持つ単語に“asshole”というものがあります。

“asshole”の意味

失礼 / いじわる / 難しい / 傲慢、横柄な人という意味です。簡単に日本語にしてしまえば、ろくでなし、くそったれといった感じでしょうか。

誰かに対してイライラしていたり、怒っている時にこのスラングを使います。

このスラングは決して上司の目の前では使わないように!!(まぁみんな影では使っていますが…)　後、友だちなどの両親の前でも使わないように気を付けたほうがいいです。この単語は失礼な表現だけど究極に失礼とまでは言いがたいレベルです。もし前に”fucking”を付けると物凄く失礼で無礼な言い方になります。例:You fucking asshole!　このアホ ボケが!(もっと汚い感じの意味です。日本語にはないですね…)

例文:

John is an asshole for cheating on Cindy. 　Cindyに隠れて浮気していたなんてJohn は最低な男だ。

My boss is such an asshole!　うちの上司はろくでなしなんだよ!!

That asshole stood me up.　あのくそったれが、私との約束をすっぽかしやがった。

We looked at bastard yesterday, as we look at names you might call men, and we have looked at women’s names such as Bitch in previous posts.

A similar word to bastard would be asshole. Again the meaning is someone who is rude, mean, difficult or arrogant.  Basically you use asshole when you are annoyed or angry with someone.   Don’t use asshole to your bosses’ faces (although many people might say it behind their backs!) and most people’s parents wouldn’t like it.  It is rude, but not extremely rude (if you want extremely rude add in fucking – you fucking asshole!). If you want to learn more about using fucking as an adjective, I have an earlier post on it. Generally it is used for men.

Examples:

John is an asshole for cheating on Cindy.

My boss is such an asshole!

That asshole stood me up.

I explained a lot about names you can call women, like bitch and slut, so I thought it only fair that I do the same thing for men!  So what can we call men?

You have a bad guy in your life? You could call him a fuckhead or fucker as I explained in an earlier post.  But if we are looking at the meaning of bitch, the equivalent for a man would probably be bastard or asshole.

The meaning of bastard is literally a child who has parents that are not married.  That is an old-fashioned meaning now there are so many people with unmarried parents – it is hardly seen as a bad thing anymore.  The meaning of bastard in slang is a man who treats you badly, someone who is selfish or mean.  The English speakers in England or NZ would use bastard more often then in the US but they still do use it as I will show you in a Sex and the City post later this week.  You can see a variety of meanings of bastard at Urban Dictionary as well
